our sunny adventure

These are my final days of summer vacation and after days of rain the sun finally returned. With a temperature of approx. 21˚c Pien and I went on an adventure. We took the metro to Den Haag (The Hague) and rode to Scheveningen. Pien really loves water and the beach. We watched the waves roll in and enjoyed our little picnic in the sand. I found a nice cycle route between Rotterdam and Den Haag so we followed one side back home. We came across a forest, parks, meadows and saw the King's house and lots of wildlife :). By the time we were back at the house it was already evening! For all the Dutchies, you can find the route here

hello again Katendrecht

We thought about our city and realized that so much has changed in such a short period of time. Rotterdam is a city of ambition and change and is constantly on the move. That's why we went on a journey to visit Katendrecht by bike, or as we call it here De Kaap (The Cape). We were surprised actually by the way they brought the old sheds to life again. There are sometimes activities such as theatre performances, markets, exhibitions etc. but I really like this form. There is this really nice espresso bar (Posse) with a nice shop attached and just around the corner there is this Chelsea-Market kind of space with a cheese-, vegetable-, meat-, bread- cider-, beer- and coffee department. This made us so happy! Just entering this big open industrial space and being welcomed by the smell of fresh coffee and bread and to hear the laughter coming from the bar department... Yes! We love!

outgoing mail: Corey, Hanna and Rinske

Sometimes there is some kind of hole in the activity stream of every day and I suddenly have all the time in the world to catch up writing. Good days :). Today I managed to make new envelopes and write these girls their letter. 'Till the next!

getting ready

We've finished the invitations for Pien's (upcoming) birthday! It's amazing how fast this first year went and just to see her grow and transform from a baby to a little girl. Now she's almost 1!
Today we took the train for the first time, I hoped she'd like it a lot but I guess she didn't feel like riding the train haha. Luckily it was a short ride as we went to a second-hand shop nearby. We bought a fairytale book and a special pan to make 'poffertjes' (small pancakes). We enjoyed the outdoors and our small adventure, now let's post those invitations!

fresh ravioli

Last weekend my dad gave me a bag filled with fresh herbs, a sweet pepper and some zucchini from his garden. I made a jar of pesto (without cheese) out of the basil and decided to make dinner out of the zucchini. I filled the home made dough with some tomato's, onions, garlic and soy. They were great as we served them with grilled zucchini and some fresh pesto on top! Best meal of the week! And how wonderful to make everything yourself?!

duizel's sixth

This weekend our next door park celebrated its sixth edition of Duizel in het park. A festival with art, theatre and music. Saturday was a perfect day to hang out in the grass, watch people, enjoy the sun and watch all the kids play :). This year I made a cake for them to sell in their cake shop, I'll share the recipe later.

a letter from Singapore

As always, Corey wrote me a beautiful letter about star gazing, dreaming away in the library and visiting the museum. She included some nice cards too. Thank you!!

hello quiet Brielle

This morning I took the bus and metro to my father and grandfather in Brielle. Pien was excited about the ride, so sweet. We spent our day in the garden, playing around in the pool and eating some raspberries and a few (a bit sour) blackberries ;). It was a beautiful sunny and warm day and every time I escape the city and enter Brielle the ease embraces me.. I really enjoy how quiet it is down there.
